All levels of ESL are determined by an initial English language test we give within the first ten days of your enrollment. If you are a student who was previously enrolled in a New York City public school, your level is determined by your result on the NYSESLAT examination you took in the spring.
A "intermediate" at Public School 16 is entitled to 360 minutes of ESL per week. At least one of these will be strategic Interventions, while the other two periods may be a collaborative effort between the classroom teacher and the ESL teacher on academic content covered in the classroom with the content areas of Math, Science and Social Studies.
Students at the Intermediate level can:
-recall -describe -define record -say -summarize -explain -restate -compare -contrast
